First day in New York
Hey Guys!
After almost 9 hours sitting in an airplane from Frankfurt to New York, me and my parents finally arrived at the John F. Kennedy Airport last night (10pm local time --> 4 o' clock in Germany, so really in the middle of the night).
At first, we had to wait a pretty long time until we were able to get our luggage, because we had to pass different security checks, where a picture of us and our fingerprints were taken. Due to the fact that we didn't sleep during our flight, waiting wasn't that easy for us and we just wanted to go to bed. But sometimes we all don't have any choice, right?
But finally, after waiting about 1 hour to get the permission to enter the United States of America legally (IMPORTANT: Make sure you apply for the so called "ESTA" while you are at home at least five days before you are heading to the US! Otherwise you may have problems to enter America), we got our belongings and were able to catch the next AirTran, bringing us to a subway station. The train was free, and it was easy to understand which one to choose, at least for us.
So we directly got into contact with the American subway system and bought a "Metro-card", allowing us to use the underground system (You can use the card with up to 4 persons).
When we arrived at our home, we fell in bed and slept directly :D
Today (April 3rd, 2019), we had breakfast at 8am and then decided to visit the statue of liberty. So we took the next subway and drove to Whitehall Street, where we had to choose between 3 options:
Taking the Staten Island Ferry (it's free for everyone), that ships you from Manhatten to Staten Island. You will have a great view on the statue from the distance, but the ferry won't stop at or close to "Lady Liberty" at all.
Taking the Ellis Island Ferry (18,50$ per person), that brings you directly to the statue and stops there.
Doing a tour, sold by many sellers in Manhatten/Whitehall Street (actually I don't know what is included).
We decided to do options 1 and 2, but option 1 was kind of wasted time, because you have a pretty much better view on the statue, if you choose option 2. However you have to pay for it!
After taking a lot of pictures, we decided to visit the 5th Avenue as second and went some shopping there! It wasn't that spectacular at all (except of the Victoria's Secret store with its exhibition of costumes on the top floor there 😉).
Then we went home, ate dinner and now I'm laying in my bed, being very tired and looking forward to some sleep. But the most important thing: I'm so happy and thankful to be right here!
